WashPost: "Racial Undercurrent Is Seen in Clinton Campaign"

Well, looks like the Clinton campaign is beginning to turn off black folks with their racial fear tactics. I've been waiting for the MSM to pick up on this. They finally have.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con tent/article/2007/12/22/AR2007122201762. html

From the Washington Post:

"It has unfolded mostly under the radar. But an important development in the 2008 Democratic battle may be the building backlash among African Americans over comments from associates of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton that could be construed as jabs at Sen. Barack Obama's race.

These officials, including Clinton aides and prominent surrogates, have raised questions or dropped references about Obama's position on sentencing guidelines for crack vs. powder cocaine offenses; on his handgun control record; and on his admitted use of drugs as a youth. The context was always Obama's "electability." But the Illinois senator's campaign advisers said some African American leaders detect a pattern, and they believe it could erode Clinton's strong base of black support."

Re: ndercurrent Is Seen in Clin (none / 0)

The Obama campaign was wisely chose to stay silent about.

The black masses and others can do the job better than Obama.

Too bad for Hillary.

Well they should...if the stories are true.

If Clinton can play the race card, Obama can toss is back in her face.

No. They are making a white woman guilty for race baiting. It's not Obama who's doing the race baiting--he's just pointing out the fact that some of Hillary's people are.

You are lying again, "Gladiatorstail". Your story is false. But no surprise, since you work for the Clintons.

Bill Clinton was never accused of drug dealing.

Do you fell guilty?

Re: ndercurrent Is Seen in Clin (none / 0)

There are always some nutcases out there who will probably accuse Bill Clinton of raping aliens from other planets.

The point is he was never accused of drug dealing by a credible source that got any attention.

Re: ndercurrent Is Seen in Clin (none / 0)

I'm sure he's been accused of worse than that. But it doesn't really count if it's not from a credible source that gets play in the MSM.

Re: WashPost (none / 0)

So we can't talk about the issues of black people because no matter the position, it's racist. If black people want to believe Clinton is pushing racial or racist arguments, so be it. But please, Obama is playing the same ole politics by pushing this meme that the Clinton campaign is using racial and racist arguments. Is it working? Possibly, he has the media on his side.

Re: WashPost (none / 0)

How is Obama pushing this. He's trying to avoid this because he's in a no-win situation if he ever addressed it.

The Clinton would love Obama to cry "race" like and angry black man.

Re: WashPost (none / 0)

Rather ridiculous to blame Obama for something that was obviously part of the Clinton campaign's strategy.

Consider the following:

1) Shaheen wasn't fired, he just "stepped down" as co-chair. Wonder if he'll be back someday, hmmm.

2) The very next day, Clinton was out on the stump bragging about how there were no skeletons in her closet - in other words, continuing the exact same theme Shaheen brought up.

Re: WashPost (none / 0)

So you really believe this was all just a happy coincidence? Sorry, I don't.

This happened in the space after Clinton's initial "fun part begins" attack on Obama failed miserably. It makes perfect sense to me that they would pivot in their strategy and launch a dirty attack through a proxy, who takes the hit, and "steps down," plus Clinton makes a big show of "apologizing" publicly, but the dirt is out there. It's a classic tactic, I'm surprised you think any campaign would be above such things.

Re: WashPost (none / 0)

Yes, for all the partisans out there it is always the other campaign that is viciously attacking, while yours was just nobly defending itself.

The point is, campaigns do stuff like this - seed stories in the media, launch attacks by proxy to get stuff out there etc. I'm sure the Edwards and Obama campaigns would not be above such tactics either, and so what? That's what happens in campaigns.

What crossed the line for me was that this attack did appear to have a racial dimension to it, however much Clinton supporters may be loathe to admit it.

The comment from Win will tell you. (none / 0)

These folks aren't interested in the democratic party. The irrationality and malice of this little contribution demonstrates more clearly than I ever could just how narrow and bitter  these people are. They are not democrats they are essentially Naderites more interested in promoting the interest of a candidate they see in the Naderite mode rather than promoting the interests of Democrats. That's why they so eagerly jump on this latest bit of trash from Cillizza. No facts all rumor and innuendo. They are a pretty sad bunch and I don't want to be around when reality hits and the real Democratic party rejects their candidate.

Re: The comment from Win will tell you. (2.00 / 1)

wrong, the reason I support Obama is because I care greatly about the Democratic party and its future.  I believe Obama to be the strongest GE candidate, especially in states with pivotal Senate elections like Colorado, New Hampshire, and New Mexico.  Without 60, or nearly 60 votes in the Senate, NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING  of importance to the liberal cause will able to be accomplished.

Barry has just lost the race with one! (none / 0)

This is bullshit story. I am black and none of my friends (black friends), think the Clintons are racist or played the race card. I am surprised that the Barry camp has and is pushing this meme. He started pushing this meme when he went on the Tom Joyner Morning Show 2 weeks ago and it went nowhere. Many white people will be turned off by this. Mark my words. White people hate those that play the race card.  Now that he has successful in pushing the story to the WaPO, how is he going to ignore it ? What is he going to say about it?  He's just lost the race with one in my opinion.

Does Obama really want to inject race? (none / 0)

Accusing the Clintons of all people of being racists is weak and absurd.  How muhc milage will Obama really get out that?

On the other side of the coin it simply brings up race and that isn't a plus for Obama.  White voters in Iowa may not like him playing the race card and African American voters in places like SC may start to think more about his race as well.
